An eSIM is a digital SIM built into your phone — no plastic card needed. You buy a data plan, scan a QR code (or tap Instant Install), and your phone connects to a local network at your destination. Your regular SIM stays in place, so you keep your number for calls and SMS while the eSIM handles data.
Most iPhones from XR/XS (2018) and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer support eSIM. Quick check: dial *#06# — if you see an EID number, your phone supports eSIM. Note: the phone must be carrier-unlocked; a device locked to a local carrier cannot add our eSIM.
Open My eSIMs and view your QR code. On the iPhone go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code and scan it. If an Instant Install button is shown, one tap installs it without scanning. Then in Settings → Cellular set the AirPlans eSIM as your Mobile Data line and enable Data Roaming for it. Install at home over Wi-Fi, before your flight.
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM (on Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM) and scan the QR code from your My eSIMs area. After installing, set the AirPlans eSIM for Mobile Data and turn on Data Roaming for it. Keep your primary SIM active for calls if you wish.
Install before you travel, over reliable Wi-Fi — installation alone does not start the clock on most plans. The validity period starts when the eSIM first connects to a supported network at your destination. Landing with the eSIM already installed means you are online minutes after the plane doors open.
Yes. Our eSIMs are data-only, and your primary SIM stays active — you can still receive calls and SMS on your regular number (note your home carrier may charge roaming rates for answering calls abroad). Apps like WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime keep working over the eSIM data and stay linked to your existing number.
